Mountain Tamer formed in 2011, with their signature fusion of heavy psych and stoner rock, based in the outskirts of San Francisco. Featuring guitarist and vocalist Andrew Hall, drummer Casey Garcia and bassist Dave Teget, Mountain Tamer garnered local success with their hypnotic live performances, incorporating lucid jam sessions and traditional stoner/doom structures, and seamlessly blending splashes of psychedelia with metal. Mountain Tamer quickly established themselves, and were the obvious choice to support touring acts like Dead Meadow, The Budos Band, and Weedeater. Shortly after, Mountain Tamer shifted their ambition beyond California, headlining multiple successful tours throughout the western United States. Gaining momentum, the band released their demo “MTNTMR” in 2015, earning the attention of Italian label Argonauta Records. Mountain Tamer signed with Argonauta, and soon released their self-titled, debut album in spring 2016 to critical acclaim by publications like The Metal Observer, The Obelisk and Metal Assault.
“This is inherently what makes the album a unique experience in this age of saturation: it refuses to play nice and certainly lulls the listener into a false perception then barraging them with an arsenal of aural hallucinations many bands are unworthy to wield.” – Heavy Planet
Now based in Los Angeles, the trio is leaving their mark, having opened for the original bassist of Queens of the Stone Age, Nick Oliveri, and his band Mondo Generator. In September 2017 Mountain Tamer released a two song streaming demo titled “Living In Vain”, featuring songs to be included on their next album offering coming Summer 2018 through Magnetic Eye Records/Nasoni Records.
With no plans of slowing down, their sights are set on expanding their musical horizons yet again through their accessible but ever-evolving sound.
